Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official said the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
